If you got to any of the recent eNZed VMX or Johnny Old events you will normally see a beautiful example of  a CZ 380 MX (Model 981.4 - 1973) being campaigned by Tony Smith.

The CZ was actually bought by Tony's father around 1987 from next to the carpark that led to AFC's workshop  in Palmerston North. The cost was $300 and the bike came with a pair of sidepipe motors, both sets of cases from these motors now live in Brisbane! The bike made its way in Tony's care some 6-7 years ago.

The bike has undergone significnt development over the years including:

* Radial top end refitted now at 1mm oversize, was originally fitted with a sidepiper top end.

* Fitting a mikuni carb mounted on a ACK manifold - Tony notes this was probably the best modification as it actually works unlike the original!

* Built a hybrid Suzuki/CZ electronic ignition firing both plugs, but now have a Electrexworld(UK) single plug system.

*  Fitted a handmad alumimium airbox from Poland that is a perfect replica of the original steel version.

* Tall GP seat, has hard foam and is about 50mm higher.

* Aluminium rims from Torpedo7, laced with Buchanan spokes.

*  Falta swingarm and polished aluminium tank.

Tony has used and recommends the following suppliers for keeping your CZ alive and kicking:

*  CRHighperformance.com

*  CZstuff.com

*  CZmotocross.eu

*  CZmxparts.com

Presentation of Tony's immaculate CZ is also matched by race results where he frequently runs in the top three of the pre 75 open class with his best result being a 1st Pre75 open in the 2011/2012 KiwiVMX series.
